Her Thoughts

Not even the night can rescue her from her thoughts

I can feel her thinking even in the dark

The distance between our nakedness is merely inches

But it might as well be oceans apart

Even my touch on this night wouldn’t suffice

There are answers she needs to questions I know

And I haven’t even heard them yet, but I know

There is something about the night when it’s quiet

Hurt can be felt like a weight unseen

But its presence is as alive as the breath you’re taking

The later the night gets the heavier hurt feels

Until she’s exhausted and sleep claims her mind

Will be her only reprieve.
