Dr.
Betty Shabazz…
With the
passing of time another hero dies
A spirit so
strong willed her to overcome much adversity
As a young
woman, her beloved murdered before her eyes
Left alone to
raise six young women
Wonder of
wonders she triumphed
Spurred on by
her indomitable spirit
She serves as a
classic example
That through
tragedy we find a way to overcome
It’s in her
eyes I see “the fire next time”
It’s in her
triumphs “by all means necessary” becomes crystallized
And as she
passes on to the other side
We’re left a
little bit emptier
Dr. Betty…as
she was affectionately known
Has joined
brother Malcolm in God’s home.
