Beat
Down…
When
it seems like life has you beat Even
in your sleep you can’t get away Getting
a beat down from life’s fists No
one around to hear your screams Echoing
through the night falling on deaf ears Your
psyche so wounded and bruised Years
from it’ll still be black and blue The
mental anguish deprives you of sleep You
find yourself so lost and confused Desperately
searching for the inner you In
times of quiet meditation, you hear that child within Taking
you down that road of long ago innocence Way
back when…when you knew how to dream The
future was ahead, everything seemed possible …so
long ago …so
long ago now
all you can do is try to answer the last bell life’s
winning by a knockout in this one-sided bout and
as the fists come raining down on you somewhere
deep inside your inner child cries longing
for the days of yesteryear. 4-18-97
